As the Short Story Guy, I started this blog to focus on short stories and, of course, have some fun. So, we introduce the “So Bad…It’s Good” series: once a month, we review a short story (or sometimes, a novel) that’s been turned into a film, by making our own parody movie. It’s my hope that our movies – which are so bad they’re good – will entertain you and shed some light on some great short stories.
Our first short story spoof is Brokeback Mountain, which we renamed, Brokebutt Mountain.
Brokeback Mountain is the story of two cowboy ranchers, who develop a deeper friendship than anyone, including them, would ever imagine.
The sixty-four-page novelette authored by Annie Proulx was originally published in the New Yorker. It won the magazine’s “National Magazine Award” for fiction, and later was turned into a feature film. “Brokeback Mountain”, starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, went on to earn a whopping 178,000,000 worldwide.
What short story will become the next box-office hit? Maybe it’s the one you’re reading, or the one you’re writing.
Please enjoy our short film and let us know what you think about Brokebutt Mountain.
